About Myrna R. Walwyn

Myrna R. Walwyn is a trailblazing legal professional, notary public of the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis and one of the founding partners of Walwyn Slack Clarke & White (WSCW). As the founder and former head of chambers of Myrna R. Walwyn & Associates, which she established over 40 years ago, Myrna has led a distinguished career, paving the way for future generations of women attorneys in the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis.
Myrna completed her education and legal training in the United Kingdom. She was “called to the Bar” in 1980, after completing her pupillage at Louis Bloom-Cooper, Queen’s Counsel’s chambers in London, where she served as a criminal law defense attorney — a rare accomplishment for both a black person and woman at that time and obtaining the well-earned titles of Barrister and Solicitor.

Myrna’s legal journey in Nevis began in 1981 with her groundbreaking achievement as the first female attorney in Nevis. Over the years, she has built a stellar reputation for her versatility and expertise in numerous legal disciplines. Her early career saw her defending clients in high-stakes criminal cases, where she earned a reputation for her formidable courtroom presence and unwavering dedication to justice. As her practice evolved, she became known for her work in civil litigation, real estate law, company law, probate, family law, intellectual property, and banking law. In fact, Myrna also maintained a thriving practice in Anguilla for over 20 years, commuting there nearly weekly via St. Maarten.

Myrna’s extensive legal career is marked by her representation of a diverse clientele, ranging from local residents to high net-worth expatriates. She has served as general counsel for nearly every major hotel on the island, including the Four Seasons Hotel, Hermitage Hotel, and Mount Nevis Hotel.

In addition to same, throughout her career, Myrna has been a steadfast advocate for justice and equality, often taking on cases that champion the rights of the underrepresented. Her reputation as an avid protector of women’s rights and religious liberty freedoms is well-established, and she has dedicated a significant portion of her practice to pursuing child maintenance claims for single parents, often on a pro bono basis. She has mentored several lawyers who are now serving as magistrates, judges, or managing their own firms.  Indeed, her work has had a profound impact on the legal landscape of St. Kitts and Nevis, and her dedication to her clients is unparalleled.

Political Involvement

Upon returning to Nevis, Myrna was active in the political scene of the newly formed nation of St. Kitts and Nevis in 1983. She was a member of CARIWA, the Caribbean Women’s Association; president of the National Organization of Women in Nevis; and vice president of the region’s committee responsible for human rights and related legal issues. Myrna even formed her own political party and ran for elections in 1983, demonstrating her commitment to public service and leadership.
